We had to take our son into Ipswich for an appointment later in the day yesterday. I was going to go into work at Ipswich for a couple of hours, then drive back home, pick him up and then go all the way back again. 200km instead of 100km… Mmmm
When I woke, I lay in bed for a little while. It was nice and warm there. I really must get up if I’m to get to work. Then my mind wandered. And wandered. And wandered. It was impossible to move, my body was is that position that was just right. To move would spoil it all… I eventually turned my head to gaze at the clock. Bloody hell, I must have dozed off again. I’ll never make work now.
And really, what is the point? I would only be there for an hour or so before I would have to leave. After a very long hard battle with myself, I made a decision. I would take the whole day off. I fought very hard and agonised over it for a very long quarter of a second before I decided.
I ended up dragging myself out of bed. Maree had been up for ages, as she always was. We did what we had to do, all the normal morning things before we took the kids to school. Then we went down town and had a coffee at Wybellina’s Coffee Shop and watched Boonah come to life for the day. It was very strenuous. We walked up to the newsagency and browsed through the magazines for a while. Then after all this effort, we went back home.
It was a gorgeous winter’s day in Boonah. I wandered around the yard pulling the odd weed, checking the chooks and watering a few fruit trees.
We still had an hour or two to kill before we had to pick our son up from school. I suggested to Maree that we go for a drive. I didn’t know where we would go, we would decide when we got there. We drove to Aratula but there was all the highway traffic going through there. Then the car turned off towards Lake Moogerah.

We parked at the dam and wandered around. We nearly had the place to ourselves. What a gorgeous day! It was a cloudless sky and the breeze was virtually non-existent so the water was almost like a sheet of glass.

These stunning views were all too much. We gravitated towards the Lake Moogerah Cafe searching for sustenance. We ordered coffee and scones with jam and cream and settled back in a nice sunny spot. We soon had a couple of friends join us – some noisy miner birds looking for our crumbs.

But all good things must come to an end. We left Lake Moogerah and went home before collecting our son and taking him to Ipswich for his appointment. Being in a city was such a contrast after the morning we had had.
