My trip down south – Day Nine. (8th May)

Today was a day of sightseeing and adventure. It saw me leave Hamilton headed for Geelong. I drove to Portland from Hamilton and then to Cape Nelson. I stopped off at the Cape Nelson Lighthouse (or Lightstation) and had a look around.

From Cape Nelson, I took the Great Ocean Rd. It had been suggested to me that the helicopter flights were good. So I kept an eye out for them. The trouble was they needed a minimum of two people before they would go up and I was on my own. So after I visited two companies, I came across a third that was very busy. They were able to fit me in with two other guys so I got to go on a flight past the Twelve Apostles. My luck was in. I was given a low level flight for the price of a high level.

This is the chopper I went up in…..

Spectacular!!!!

After the helicopter flight, I went looking for the Otway Fly. This had also been suggested to me as something worthwhile to do. And as it turned out, it was. The Otway Fly is a 600m long walkway built 25m above the forest floor through the treetops in a cool temperate rainforest in the Otway Range. There is a fair walk through the rainforest before you get to the Fly.

The size of the trees is amazing!

Pretty boy….

After I visited this, I had a long drive to my motel in Geelong. The road to Geelong was interesting. The route I took started off with a very windy section through rainforest that seemed to go on forever.
